PROJECTS OF NOTE

Laura Brozier - Female weightlifter 2016
Picture
  • In this project I was asked to design a logo that could represent her weightlifting nickname "Monster." I asked her to send me several pictures of the kind of monster that she had in mind, and I also looked for some myself to show her. Once we discussed that the idea of a face and horns, and war paint I began doing several concept drawings for her to choose from. I used photographs of her own face to mimic in the drawing and began doing different renditions. Some with hair, some without, and different positions. The final drawing is pretty close to what you see pictured here. I then scanned, and rendered the image in Adobe Illustrator. Making adjustments and changes where necessary. Smoothing lines, using the pen tool, etc. The final image was saved as a vector image and she used it on a variety of items including her weightlifting belt, jacket, and gym bag. She was incredibly pleased with it, as was her coach.

VC/UHV Library 2014-2015
Picture
  • The Smithsonian Institute's traveling exhibit entitled  "Journey Stories" came to the VC/UHV Library in 2014 and 2015. It was a physical exhibit set up on the second floor of the library showcasing all the different ways that people journeyed to or through America through history. I was asked by the committee if I could build a temporary website to advertise the exhibit. Using the CMS Weebly, it featured a landing page, calendar of events, blog page of stories provided by community members, photo gallery, and a form page to sign up for guided tours of the exhibit. For the most part I was given a lot of freedom for design, but there were certain things that I had to adhere to, for instance, there were a lot of different entities involved in the exhibition and I needed to ensure that all of their logos were included. I was not able to alter color or how they looked even though in some ways they clashed with the overall antique motif I had produced. But the website was received warmly by staff. It stayed in commission for about two years after the exhibit ended.

Jennifer Rick Foster Victoria County Treasurer Campaign 2014
Picture
I was hired by Jennifer Rick Foster to do a brand identity project which included designing campaign materials, building a website, email server, and photo-editing services. She had some strict guidelines that she had to follow as far as words that couldn't or needed to appear on her materials because of local laws. She also had already chosen a color scheme and fonts that she wanted to continue to use throughout the campaign.

Website - Her website included a call to action page, a donations page, and a running current news events page for her speaking engagements. I also created an email server for her with Mail Chimp.
Campaign Materials - I designed several pushcards for her to pass out to prospective voters. Some included her picture, like the one shown here, and others were text only.
Photo-editing - As she had photographs taken, I edited them for color correction, exposure correction, and also to make the color set more conducive to the material it was used with in the project. Looking back on them now, I think I would have lightened the exposure on the image just a bit more. But she was pleased with the work none-the-less. It was an improvement from what it had been before. If you look at the portfolio page, you can see the before and after comparison here.
