Lady Gaga what?

Oh man. I've been avoiding this blog. I hate hate HATE going along with trends. I hate the idea of liking something when its popular and everyone else is liking it, talking about, or whatever. And everywhere you look there it is.
That being said....as much as I hate to admit it....Lady Gaga's music is starting to grow on me. Now here's the thing though. I only recently heard about her in the last couple of months. I know...I live under a rock and I don't listen to the radio. The first song I heard was Pokerface. And I actually did not hear the song song by her. I heard a cover of the song done by a girl named Molly ( aka sweetafton23 ) on Youtube. I then decided since I liked the version that Molly had done, that I should look up the actual artist and see what's she's like. Wow was I in for an awakening and yes it was somewhat rude. I watched the video and it was kind of one of those moments where you see someone naked in a place where you should never see someone naked. Like in a high school or something. My jaw just kind of dropped open and my brain was going, "What in God's name is this?"

Then the next one that I came across was Bad Romance. And quite frankly after watching the entire thing I just kind of felt like I'd been raped. Ha.
Now after seeing these two videos, I really just felt that she was going for the extreme and shock factor and trying to get people's attention. But after watching the videos several times, there were a few things that started to sink in for me.
1. The choreography is absolutely horrid.
2. However, her artistic sense is kind of off the charts. She has an eye for creating a scene. The outlandish clothing, the scenes she sets up, its like a moving painting in a lot of ways. The use of color is really intriguing. And these are things that I was really MAD I had to admit.
3. I have to give credit to anyone who is willing to alter their outer appearance for the sake of art, even if it means making yourself look freakish and being okay with that. In the Bad Romance video she definitely does that with the one character that has the oversized eyes, the other character that's all sparkly and green with the rounded feet, the naked creature in a cage with the super thin body, but then this strange bumpy backbone and the weird naked animal on her head. How many people are willing to metamorphis their bodies to that extent, allow it to be seen, and still be okay with themselves afterwards?
4. Another misconception I had came from her video Just Dance. After seeing this I really just thought she was another one of those 2 dimensional pop princesses like Lindsay Lohan who was about nothing more than drugs and drinking. I was really unimpressed with this video altogether. Here it is if you haven't seen it.
5. Then I came across Eh, eh and her public performance of Speechless. This was a whole different Lady Gaga. It was a softer side of her, that wasn't as incredibly outlandish. And something was actually evident that I hadn't been able to glean from the other videos. She can actually sing! I had been so wrapped up in the visuality of her videos I never really heard her voice! She's not fabulous. But she is a decent singer.
Here's Eh, eh.
I'm not sure that I'm comfortable viewing her as a fabulous singer. But as a visual artist, I think she has merit. And quite frankly, she's weird. I can't fault her for that because I'm weird too. And I enjoy being weird. The fact that she does have singing ability is just kind of a bonus.
I guess...thought I hate to admit it...I kind of like her. But I'll never admit that again! And you can't make me. And what the hell is up with her molding her hair into bows anyways?
